Sydney, Australia. 2008.10.30 - QR Code on Digital Tsunami business cards.
Scan, Buzz, Beep, OK!
The Quick Response (QR) Code is a two-dimensional bar code developed in 1994 by Denso Wave Incorporated of Japan. Initially decoded at high speed for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing, QR Codes are now scanned in a broader range of applications. These codes have recently emerged in business applications including magazines and advertising posters in public spaces. Codes can be created at
http://qrcode.kaywa.com/.
In his
Forester research blog released today, Jonathan Browne reflects on the use of QR codes in popular Japanese magazines. Browne explains that brands use QR codes to make a connection with the customer.
A cellphone or mobile device with a QR reader scans and captures the URL and bookmark the address, then connects to the site via the phone's browser. The process includes a verification tone as the URL is captured and connected, or as the Kaywa guide is titled: "
Scan, Buzz, Beep, OK!"
