Sydney, Australia. 2009.10.9 - When consumer electronics manufacturer DGTEC was preparing images for a new website, there was a choice. Shoot the images inhouse with inadequate facilities or engage a professional photographer. The company consulted Digital Tsunami, and was offered a third option: build a studio in a vacant room on site!

The benefits of economy, accessibility and ease-of-use were apparent. The investment in setting up and operating a studio would be recouped in under ten days when compared to outsourcing photography.

Director of Digital Tsunami, Andrew W Morse, brought in his long-term colleague Matt Gormly, a highly experienced cameraman, to configure the best solution for DGTEC. After a site visit and analysis of the primary need (photography of consumer electronics products from small digital radios to 42" Freeview LCD monitors), Matt suggested a ceiling rack and three suspended lamps with 6 and 12 banks of daylight flourescent globes. The beams and lamps can all be repositioned with an extreme degree of safety and flexibility.

An incidental, but exceptionally valuable benefit of this configuration, (over the considerable technical complexity of a flash photography system), is that it is also ideally suited to video production.

DGTEC purchased a movable platform which is at an ideal work-table height and can be positioned and locked off, or rolled out of the way when larger objects are to be photographed. A wall mounted rack, and roll of professional photographic paper creates a portable 'infinity cyc' for both tabletop and freestanding products. To complete the task, Matt and Andrew provided consultation to inhouse staff on studio principles and practical tips for attaining the best images.
